Canadiens sign defenceman Jordan Staal to three-year contract

CANADIENS, FLORIDA — The Montreal Canadiens announced today that the club has signed defenseman Jordan Staals to a three-years contract.

Sterling Staals, 21, played for the Halifax Mooseheads last season, posting 16 points (7g-9a) and 28 penalty minutes in 57 games with the Halifax Pro League’s Norfolk Admirals.

The 6-foot-4, 209-pound defenseman was originally drafted by the Canadiens in the fourth round (164th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.

Schaals has recorded 15 points (4g-10a) in 40 career AHL games with Norfolk.

He has appeared in seven NHL games this season, recording one assist and two penalty minutes.
